 Chef Seth Fernald

Seth wrote his first menu at the age of 7 and that’s where his love of food all began. As a child Seth was influences by both his mother and grandmother;  family gatherings were always centered around the food that was being served. At the age of 13 Seth was exposed to Duck a l’ Orange and Creme Caramel and that’s where the obsession began. Seth Graduated from Johnson & Wales University in 2001 and has been chasing his dreams to recreate those memories for others. Seth is a man of exceptionally high personal standards and values genuine collaboration when designing menu’s for a client’s event.

Seth and his Family moved to Seattle in 2013; he dreamed of getting an opportunity to work in a winery in the Woodinville area. His dream came true in the spring of 2013 when he received the call that Novelty Hill Januik winery had selected him to be their newest Executive Chef. During Seth’s time at the winery; he took all his years of knowledge and applied it to what was attributed to the best culinary program the Winery has ever had.

After five years at the winery which was awarded best winery by 425 Magazine three years in a row, Seth felt it was time to use his talent’s for a greater cause. Seth began a personal journey while taking on the position as Executive Chef at Farestart in their Community meals kitchen. This was the first phase of their program which help’s rebuild people who are looking for a second chance in society due to incarceration, mental health or homelessness. In his kitchen every day they served as many as 1000 meals a day  based on food recovery to homeless shelters and mental health facilities in and around the Seattle area. During the pandemic his team and he buckled down and partnered with Chef’s around the city and fed 2.3 million people that first year all while recovering over 250,000 pounds of food in order to feed all those in need.

Seth has recently been reunited with the team at Oxbow Farms and Conservation and this year they worked together to build a lifelong dream of his;  a kitchen that is situated right in the middle of the farm. This gives Seth and his team the opportunity to work with the farmers to ensure that the ingredients are being used have been harvested at the last possible minute in order to preserve the flavor and quality.

Smor is a reflection of all years or traveling, educating himself and ultimately the time he spends cooking. When Seth isn't working on the farm or spending time with his family he love's to bring his passion for using locally sourced ingredients into your home for a private dinner, cooking class or small intimate event in your home in and around the Seattle area; if your event is outside the Seattle area feel free to reach out as they might be able to accommodate your needs. Feel free to reach out to him to help organize the perfect dining experience for you and your guest's.
